Over the past four years, we’ve had great success helping new—and returning—hams get started (or re-started) in their ham radio journey. This year’s event is set for May 10th at the Pathfinder Shelter in Black Creek Park. We’ll have access to the shelter starting at 10:00 AM, which is when setup begins. Our new(ish) hams will start arriving around 11:00 AM. The event typically wraps up between 3:00 and 4:00 PM, depending on how long the energy—and audience—lasts! If you’d like to share your favorite part of the hobby with newcomers, this is a great opportunity! I’d love to once again offer a variety of engaging topics. In past years, we’ve covered things like: • Antenna building • Portable operating • Digital modes • CW • Soldering • Programming HTs • Foxhunting • Throwing antennas into trees (safely, of course!)
If you can spare a few hours to help inspire and support the next generation of hams, your time and effort will be greatly appreciated. Want to participate? Please send me an email (education@rochesterham.org) with the topic you'd like to present. If you're interested but unsure what to do, just let me know—I'd be happy to help you brainstorm.
