ROCHESTER AMATEUR RADIO ASSOCIATION

In the Fall 2003 our Radio Coach program was replaced with a Communications Technology program for 7th and 8th grades at Thomas Jefferson School.  Our successful Radio Coach started with Mr. Shade's 5th grade class at Theodore Roosevelt School in 1999 and ended at Thomas Jefferson 6th grade classes in Spring 2003.

Radio Coaches originated as a ARRL program that was inspired by "America's Promise, the Alliance for Youth," chaired by General Colin Powell.

This program places hams in the classroom assisting teachers.  Our goal is to introduce children to careers in communication technologies and expose them to basic electronics with hands on experiences.  Amateur radio operators interact with the students during field trips, demonstrations and projects.

We have delivered this program to 180 students covering 9 different classrooms and 2 different schools.
